João Cancelo is set to end his time at Manchester City and move to Al-Hilal on a permanent transfer.
According to A Bola, João Cancelo is finalizing the transfer procedures in Paris before signing with Al-Hilal. The 30-year-old will be acquired for £21 million and will receive a salary of £13 million, not including bonuses.
Cancelo has not played for Manchester City since falling out with manager Pep Guardiola in early 2023. He was subsequently loaned to Bayern Munich and Barcelona over the past 18 months. Guardiola had opened the door for Cancelo’s return to City, but all parties are now expecting a favorable outcome from the upcoming transfer.
Cancelo joined Man City from Juventus in 2019 and made 154 appearances for the Manchester club, scoring 9 goals and winning 3 Premier League titles, as well as the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
Cancelo is unlikely to finalize his contract in time to play in Al-Hilal’s next match against Damac on Wednesday. If that’s the case, he will have to wait until mid-September to make his debut for Al-Hilal in a match against Al-Riyadh in the Saudi Pro League.
This season, Al-Hilal won the Saudi Arabian Super Cup with a commanding 4-1 victory over Al-Nassr. Under coach Jorge Jesus, the team has started the new Saudi Pro League season impressively with a 3-0 win against Al-Akhdoud, currently leading the league with the best goal difference.
