Gary Lineker believes Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya should be considered world-class after his performance in the win against Aston Villa.
Mikel Arteta’s team secured their second consecutive Premier League victory by defeating Unai Emery’s side 2-0 at Villa Park, thanks to second-half goals from Leandro Trossard and Thomas Partey.
During a goalless first half, Raya made a stunning save, denying Ollie Watkins’ header after a powerful shot from the home side hit the crossbar. The Spanish goalkeeper’s save was crucial and a turning point for Arsenal’s attack.
Lineker praised Raya’s performance, stating:
“Mikel Arteta made some big decisions. Last year, we questioned why he brought David Raya in, but he looks like a fantastic goalkeeper. He made a spectacular save against Wolves, and he did it again against Aston Villa. His quick reaction to prevent Ollie Watkins’ header was truly world-class.”
Former England defender Micah Richards agreed with Lineker’s assessment but expressed sympathy for Aaron Ramsdale, who may leave Arsenal this week after falling out of favor with Arteta. Wolves and Southampton have shown interest in signing Ramsdale before the transfer window closes this weekend.
